Djokovic vs Fritz US Open Preview, Prediction

Djokovic Betting Preview: Will Novak's Body Hold Up?

Novak Djokovic played arguably his best tennis in the round of 16, dismantling Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets and conceding just eight games.

However, his run to this stage hasn't been particularly inspired as he's dropped sets to Zachary Svajda, Cameron Norrie, and even looked vulnerable at times against Learner Tien in the first round. Djokovic has also had to deal with physical issues and has required the services of the physio in all four matches thus far.

Djokovic's win over Struff made him the oldest man to reach the quarterfinals at all four majors in a single season, but I have doubts about how he's been tested so far.

Djokovic's chase for a 25th Grand Slam has kept him waiting, and while he's never lost a hard-court quarterfinal matchup in a Grand Slam since dropping out of the 2014 Australian Open against Stan Wawrinka, you have to wonder how much is left in the tank.

Fritz Betting Preview: Bad History Against Djoker

It was a similarly bumpy ride for Taylor Fritz, who dropped two sets he arguably shouldn't have against Jerome Kym and Lloyd Harris. Still, the American looked to take a step forward in his round-of-16 matchup. He hit 14 aces and did not face a single break point as he cruised past Czech up-and-comer Tomas Machac in straight sets.

Fritz has been incredible on the offensive so far this tournament. He's racked up 62 aces and is averaging 52 winners per game. When on point, that has made him a menace on the fast courts in New York. However, that should hardly come as a surprise as the American is 25-8 on the year on hard courts and has won 90% of his service games on that surface.

The barrier to surmount when it comes to Fritz is the mental one. He's 0-10 against Djokovic, and has only taken three sets from the Serb across his career. However, they're yet to meet this year, and their last meeting, in the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters 1000, was much closer than Fritz is given credit for.

Djokovic vs Fritz Predictions, US Open Best Bet

It's a battle of body against mind in this one. Djokovic has the experience, the mentality and the desire, but may ultimately fall victim to his body slowly breaking down. Fritz, 27, is playing perhaps his best tennis ever and is aiming for a second consecutive major semifinals, but has a massive mental slump to overcome when facing Djokovic.
